- 07 AVR 11 AVRGoing back to Kolmogorov, there has been the paradigm in the more fundamental turbulence community of one universal state of homogeneous isotropic turbulence. In the last 15 years or so it has become more and more clear that this is not the case and that there can be several different states of turbulence, with transitions between these states. The transitions between the different states normally are of subcritical nature, just as the transition from laminar pipe or channel flow to turbulent pipe of channel flow. There, the origin of the subcritical nature is the nonnormality of the operator, combined with the nonlinearity of the Navier-Stokes equation. The nonnormality is intimately related to the local shear of the flow. All this also holds for turbulent flow, where one locally also has strong shear.
- 07 AVR 11 AVRMultiphase flows are common in nature and engineering. Atmospheric flows often involve the dispersion of droplets or solid particulate matter (dust, sand, ice crystals in clouds); marine systems are populated by plankton, sediments or microplastics. Industrial applications of disperse flows include particle separators, filtration systems, atomisers and combustion devices, spray dryers, bubble columns; interfacial and free-surface flows are widespread in chemical and process industry.

Evénements
- 07 DÉC 11 DÉCOn behalf of my fellow conveners, I would like to invite you to submit contributions to the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (GFD) session at the AGU Annual Meeting 2026, which will be held in San Francisco (USA) from 7 to 11 December 2026. Please note that there is a strong possibility that this will be the last AGU Annual Meeting held in San Francisco for a decade, making this a particularly good opportunity to attend in person. This is a reference session for many scientists affiliated with the GDRs Mécanique des Fluides Géophysiques & Astrophysiques and Navier Stokes 2.00 and, as in previous years, we expect numerous abstract submissions from these communities. Please note that AGU and the Nonlinear Geophysics (NG) section, which hosts the GFD session, support the participation of students and early career scientists in the Annual Meeting through the AGU Honors Program, poster awards, and travel grants.

- 01 OCT 30 SEPTThe PhD will focus, on the one hand, on the in situ observation and study of radiative frost events, and, on the other hand, the analysis of technological methods to combat the effects of these frosts in order to characterize their effectiveness, propose avenues for optimization, and devise viable solutions that are financially accessible to fruit growers and universal—and thus applicable to similar situations encountered in vineyards. we will evaluate the passive mixing effect generated by the interaction of the descending katabatic wind and the presence of low walls or hedges transverse to the flow. Another avenue of investigation will be to examine the source of surface radiative cooling by assessing the impact of injecting a water vapor mist at the orchard scale and its ability to inhibit radiative exchange with the atmosphere by reducing its emissivity. This study will be conducted under real-world conditions in the Belledonne massif and in situ in the orchards of Savoie.

- 01 SEPT 31 AOÛTWithin the context of human speech productions, waveguide acoustics is well studied for steadygeometries and in absence of flow. Nevertheless, human speech sound production involvesarticulation and respiratory airflow, which are omitted from most studies dealing with the physics ofspeech production. As such, the originality of the proposed PhD is two-fold in addressing firstly theinfluence of time-varying waveguide properties (area, cross-section shapes, elasticity) on acousticwave propagation and secondly in accounting for wave propagation and generation in presence ofairflow. This last aspect implies to address the influence of waveguide dynamics on the generationand interaction of different sound sources – e.g., due to a fluid-structure interaction for voiced sounds or of aero-acoustic nature for fricatives – as well as the influence of waveguide’s wall properties on sound propagation and interaction.
- 01 FÉVR 31 AOÛTWe will investigate the interaction between weakly inhomogeneous turbu-lence and sedimenting particles which are larger than the smallest flow structures. The objectiveis to determine the influence of particle size and concentration on both the particle motion andthe fluid flow. The study, which will be carried out in collaboration with a partner team in Franceperforming laboratory experiments, can be expected to generate unprecedented data-sets al-lowing for new insight into long-standing problems.
