Fluid Mechanics for Environmental Transitions (CNRS, France)

The French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) invites outstanding early-career researchers of any nationality to apply for a Junior Professor Chair (Chaire de Professeur Junior) in the field of Fluid Mechanics for Environmental Transitions. This prestigious tenure-track position is part of CNRS’s strategic commitment to addressing critical environmental and societal challenges through cutting-edge research.

Position Overview

The Chair targets candidates conducting innovative fundamental research in fluid dynamics, applied to pressing environmental issues such as climate change, energy transition, and sustainable development. Researchers using analytical, numerical, or experimental techniques to understand multi-scale fluid phenomena — from nanofluidics to atmospheric and oceanic flows — are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will join one of four leading CNRS-affiliated laboratories:

  • Service de Physique de l’État Condensé (SPEC, Saclay)

contact : berengere.dubrulle@cea.fr

  • Laboratoire de Physique de l’ENS Paris (LPENS)

contact : francois.petrelis@phys.ens.fr

  • Institut de Physique de Nice (InPhyNi)

contact : Jeremie.BEC@univ-cotedazur.fr

  • Laboratoire de Physique de l’ENS Lyon (LPENSL)

contact : mickael.bourgoin@ens-lyon.fr

These laboratories offer a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment with strong international collaborations and active programs at the interface of physics, environmental science, and engineering.

Research and Teaching

Candidates should propose a high-impact research project aligned with the mission of one or more host laboratories. A complementary teaching project (42 hours annually) will be developed in partnership with the academic institution relevant to the host laboratory. Emphasis is placed on collaborative, interdisciplinary research and open science principles.

Position Details

  • Contract Duration: 3 to 6 years (with tenure track path)
  • Annual Gross Salary: €54,600 to €57,800, depending on experience
  • Research Start-Up Package: €200,000
  • Location: Paris, Lyon, Nice, or Saclay, France
  • Application Deadline: July 14, 2025, 23:59 (Paris time)
