Large-scale organisation of small-scale motions

The animation illustrates the flow past a pair of square prisms for two different spacings between the prisms. Shown are iso-contours of enstrophy coloured by pressure.



The small variation in the distance between the prisms gives rise to substantially different large-scale structures which nonetheless reorganise the underlying turbulence.
